The Science & Skin Benefits of Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp's got super powers!

If you've been looking for a new favorite product that's hip, trending, and best of all, hydrating, think Hemp. Hemp seed oil is a natural moisturizer, helping your skin feel smooth and soft while acting as a barrier to prevent moisture loss. Even better, it's an excellent moisturizer for those tricky skin types like oily, combination, and blemish-prone. Read on to learn why hemp oil works and how to harness the powers of hemp seed oil to get smooth, shiny hair and glowing skin.

Why does hemp seed oil work?

Hemp seed oil is a terrific addition to various cosmetic products including skin cream, shampoo, shaving cream, lip balm, massage oil, and more. Hemp oil is full of omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids, including gamma-linolenic acid, an important omega-6 for skin. A powerful combination of essential fatty acids, this oil is great for promoting skin health and improving dry skin. Hemp is also rich in vitamin D to help achieve soft, smooth, and hydrated skin.

Plus, with hemp oil being reported to have a comedogenic rating of 0, it will contribute to balancing out excess sebum, making it a fabulous choice for people with chaotic skin as well as those with mature or dry skin.

Hemp seed oil: the perfect balanced cleanser.

Using this oil as an oil cleanser is amazing as it contains a perfect ratio of essential fatty acids (with approximately 57% linoleic acid!), thus helping the skin feel soft and nourished post-cleanse. While oil cleansing may seem counterintuitive, it's actually a great strategy for those with oily or chaotic skin. Because oil attracts oil, oil cleansers do a wonderful job of breaking up stubborn dirt and excess sebum, leaving your skin fresh without drying it out or exposing it to harsher cleansing agents.

To use this oil as a cleanser, wet your face and neck with tepid water and pour a quarter size of hemp oil into the palm of your hand. Massage into your skin in gentle, upward circular motions. To rinse, we recommend wiping off the oil with warm water and a 100% cotton wash cloth. This ensures that the oil comes off completely, and gives you gentle exfoliation. Oil cleansing is especially great for makeup removal. If you find that the first cleanse doesn't do the trick, you can always double cleanse with a micellar water or other cleanser.

You can use Hemp Oil as an oil moisturizer too! Hemp soaks beautifully into the skin and doesn’t leave an oily residue, just be sure to give it about 5 minutes to soak in. Unlike other oils that simply coat the skin, Hemp Seed Oil's penetrative properties ensures that it dries naturally while locking in moisture and improving the skin's overall quality.

PS: In case you're wondering, hemp seed oil is legal.

Hemp oil is not psychoactive, as all these compounds are removed during manufacturing. The strains of hemp seed that are grown and used for oil production have a very low resin content to begin with, and once they go through the manufacturing process and are washed and pressed, the final product or resin is free of any psychoactive compounds or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
